The state is looking at procuring green power from SECI, promoting demand side management (DSM) to conserve energy and improve efficiency and introducing a solar and wind policy.

PANAJI: The state government plans to have 100%renewableenergy (RE) by 2050 for all the sectors inGoa.

“After collecting data and holding numerous consultations with stakeholders, the Energy Action Plan for all sectors — electricity, transport, agriculture, fisheries and industry, among others — has now been completed and will soon be adopted by the state. The plan proposes to have 100% RE by 2050 for all sectors,” a senior officer said.

As far as electricity is concerned, the state is looking at procuring green power from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) Ltd, promoting demand side management (DSM) to conserve energy and improve efficiency, introducing a solar and wind policy, exploring tidal energy and setting up of a 150MW solar plant by 2022 and a 300MW one by 2030.

Goa needs to have a plan in place for 100% renewable energy revolving around four major factors– igh carbon emissions, high capita vehicle ownership, high per capita power consumption and climate threats–the baseline assessment report for the development of a multi-sectoral Energy Action Plan (EAP) and Decision Support Tool (DST) for Goa stated. Goa’s carbon emission is three times the national average, capita vehicle ownership 4.5 times the national average and per capita power consumption twice the national average. Additionally, climate vulnerability is another factor that adds to the need for Goa to have a renewable energy plan. The state has classified mitigation strategies of the action plan on climate change into four sectors– electricity, agriculture, transport and buildings.

The state, through Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA), had signed an MoU with German-based Deutsche Gesellschaft f?r Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH for developing a state energy plan and 100% renewable energy roadmap under the Indo-German programme on Access to Energy in Rural Areas.
