Helix Energy’s marine contracting business unit, Helix Robotics Solutions has been hired by Seaway7 the renewables unit of Oslo-listed Subsea7 for the burial of inter-array cables at Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm in the UK.

The project scope, which will be managed from Helix’s offices in Aberdeen, includes the burial of all 192 inter-array cables, totalling about 500 km in length.

The Houston-based company said it plans to utilise the construction support vessel Grand Canyon III with the T1500 jet trencher, the i-Trencher trenching system, a work-class remotely operated vehicle and associated survey services.

The contract is expected to last over 300 days and should start in the third quarter 2026. No value has been disclosed, but Scotty Sparks, Helix’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, said is one of the company’s largest trenching deals.

The Hornsea 3 wind farm is located 160 km off the Yorkshire coast. With its 2.9 GW capacity, it will become the largest individual offshore wind farm to date and will bring the total capacity of the Hornsea offshore wind zone to 5.4 GW.
