A coalition from the European Parliament’s pro-European majority has delayed the confirmation meetings for the executive vice-president (EVP) nominees in the next Commission, Parliamentary sources told Euractiv.
Valerie Hayer (Renew), Iraxte García Peréz (S&D), and Manfred Weber (EPP) met on Monday (11 November) to jointly agree on postponing the evaluation meetings for the six EVP candidates who face confirmation hearings on Tuesday (12 November), aiming to create a comprehensive package of all six nominees.
Parliamentary sources from the groups involved in the negotiations told Euractiv that the meetings are likely to be rescheduled for Wednesday (13 November) or next week.
After the first round of hearings on Tuesday morning, both the evaluation meetings for Italy’s Raffaele Fitto and Estonia’s Kaja Kallas were postponed.
The confirmation meeting for the Hungarian nominee, Olivér Várhelyi, which was also postponed on Monday, is currently due to be held on Wednesday.
